Here’s an impressive and very large Victorian Scottish pine chest of drawers, full of character and period charm.

Originally painted, the chest has been stripped and waxed at some point in its life. The existing finish is now showing its age, with some marks and blemishes to the top, so it would benefit from being cleaned back and re-waxed. Once refinished, it will make a particularly handsome piece.

The chest stands on its lovely original feet and features some beautiful detailing around the edges, along with attractive original handles. The drawer configuration consists of a full-width “kilt drawer” at the top, traditionally used for storing kilts, followed by two smaller drawers and two further full-width drawers below.

The drawers are currently running reasonably well, but they will be checked and adjusted to ensure they operate smoothly and stop correctly. There are also a couple of minor restoration jobs to attend to as part of the preparation process.

A visible central join runs down part of the front, which would originally have been filled and painted over. This is a normal feature on pieces of this type and period.

A substantial and characterful Victorian chest that will come up beautifully with some careful restoration and re-waxing.
