A truly remarkable and very early antique pine chest, believed to be Georgian in period and most likely Eastern European in origin. The dome-shaped top gives it the character of a traditional treasure chest, and the paintwork is quite extraordinary — covering the exterior with intricate patterns, floral motifs, and figurative scenes. The interior is painted too, in a warm green, making this a piece that is as decorative inside as it is out.

The chest retains its lock, though no key is present, and there are original-style carrying handles on either side. It has a beautifully aged, warm quality that speaks to its considerable age.
